Barcelona are planning for life without Ousmane Dembele, who will leave the club in the summer when his contract expires.
While the Catalan giants did bring in Adama Traore and Ferran Torres in the January transfer window, manager Xavi Hernandez wants to add another wide forward to his ranks in the summer transfer window.
And, AFC Ajax star Antony has emerged as a top target for the Barcelona manager, who has requested the board to sign the Brazilian.
Since joining the Dutch giants from Sao Paulo in 2020, the 21-year-old has enjoyed a meteoric rise to stardom. In 72 matches for the Eredivisie champions, he has scored 21 goals and set up 19 more for his teammates.
While Antony is attracting interest from Barcelona, there are some clubs from the Premier League who are also keeping close tabs on his progress at Ajax.
The seven-time capped Brazilian international was quizzed about the growing interest in him, to which he responded that he is content at Ajax, but does have ambitions of playing in Spain and England at some point.
Speaking to journalist Mike Verweij (h/t Fabrizio Romano), Antony said: “Ajax is the place where I feel happy. But of course I do think about a move in the future sometimes. Premier League & La Liga are the leagues I find beautiful. When the time is right, I hope to play there.”
Given his age and potential, Antony can be an impressive addition to the roster at Barcelona. With Dembele set to depart once his deal expires in June, the Brazilian would be a good candidate to replace him.
However, his contract with Ajax runs until the summer of 2025, meaning he may command a premium transfer fee if the Catalan giants were to make a move for his signing.
